Painting

Process:

Each portrait is carefully planned directly with my client to best reflect your individual style and taste. Working together, we will swap color ideas, decide on a size and determine the best photograph from which to work. Always open to special requests and new ideas, my passion is to make every portrait one-of-a-kind and timeless. This consultative process can be done in person, over the phone, or by email.

Sizes:

My standard portrait is 2'×3' (24 in. × 36 in.), but I am able to accommodate most other size requests.

Timing:

Following the initial consultative process, I work within a clear timeframe, and provide weekly updates as to the progress of the portrait. I always work with an agreed upon exact delivery date. A normal size portrait of 2'×3' (24 in. × 36 in.) generally takes one month.

Plan Your Portrait:

Having a portrait commissioned is a simple, fun and creative process. I love working with new clients nationwide. You can contact me directly to begin the planning process. Or follow the steps below to explore portrait options on your own.

Step One: Choose a Photo

I often crop the image around the face, so try to find a photo with an interesting or playful expression.

Step Two: Choose a Portrait Style

I offer portraits in two distinct styles (see examples below). My Circle style is an abstract, bold and contemporary approach to the pop art tradition. My Dot style is a playful twist on the more traditional portrait, perfect for any setting.

Step Three: Choose Your Colors

If you have specific colors in mind, I’m always happy to incorporate them. Another option is to select a standard palette (chart below) that best matches your style and taste.

Step Four: Sizing and Pricing

Painted portrait prices range depending on size. I work with museum and gallery quality canvas and use the best raw pigment acrylic paints, which I mix myself. The entire portrait is then hand painted by me in my studio. Each takes several days to paint. In terms of price difference: the larger the portrait, the more colors and detail I am able to include.

Step Five: Payment and Delivery

Work on your portrait starts immediately upon receipt of the photograph and a 30% materials deposit. I always work with an agreed upon exact delivery date. Please let me know if you have a specific deadline (say a birthday or anniversary). When possible, I always try to accommodate such requests. Final payment is due upon the completion of the portrait. To ensure your satisfaction, I always email a photo of the completed portrait before it ships.

I hope this gives you a good sense of the process. Be in touch with any further questions.
I look forward to working with you!
